M.D. Spenser
Welcome to my world!
The Big Fat What?
The Big Fat Wide Americana Hour is dedicated to the idea that most strands of American music are related to each other -- and that music shows are more interesting
if the songs are diverse. Variety is the spice of life.
The show features americana, country, blues, soul, bluegrass, folk, R&B, doo-wop and even a bit of jazz. The music is drawn from all eras, from the 1940s right up to 2018.
The host, M.D. Spenser, is an American writer and music reviewer based in London.
He is distinctive for his attempt to make the case that the cross-pollenization
between different strands of American music has created a cultural richness
that has helped American music circle the globe.
The show also features occasional interviews with luminaries such as
Dave Alvin, Emily Barker, Applewood Road and others.
Spenser's style is recognizable for his love of relating
odd historical tidbits about the musicians he features.
